Vaccinations/Prescriptions:

  • Although some healthcare providers might recommend certain vaccinations or prescriptions, none are necessary for living in Puriscal although a flu shot is always recommended.

Medical Insurance:

  • It is always a good idea to get medical insurance before leaving the country in case of severe illness or serious accidents to cover you if you are to return to the states for care. Here are two great resources for starting a health insurance plan and an emergency evacuation plan for while you are in Costa Rica.

Local healthcare:

  • The healthcare in Costa Rica is extremely good. For most minor ailments it is very affordable to use the local medical services and medications.
  • The social security healthcare clinic is located in Puriscal ten minutes drive from the farm. If there is an emergency during hours when the clinic is not open, volunteers will be taken to San Jose, an hour drive from the farm, to receive care.
